Ethical AI Use Policy

Ethical AI Use Policy

Last updated on

Scope

This policy describes how I use AI across my creative, technical, and professional projects. AI may assist with brainstorming, research, writing, coding, documentation, audits, accessibility testing, and reporting.

I use AI as a collaborator and aid to my work. Its output can be useful, but it can also be incomplete, inaccurate, or biased.

Principles

1. Human judgment and responsibility

I make the final decisions about how AI-generated or AI-assisted work is used. I am responsible for reviewing the work, checking its accuracy and suitability, and correcting it when needed.

AI output does not replace my understanding of the work or my responsibility for its effects.

2. AI in engineering, audits, and reporting

I may use AI to inspect code or project materials, help identify potential issues, support internal testing, organize findings, and draft reports or documentation.

AI-generated findings are leads for review. They are not proof that a system is correct, secure, accessible, or ready to release. I review relevant findings and validate them using appropriate methods.

3. Accessibility requires human verification

AI and automated tools can help identify accessibility concerns, but they cannot establish that an experience works for people with disabilities.

For my projects, accessibility qualification requires the complete, defined verification matrix to pass, including human testing. AI-assisted or automated results alone never qualify a release.

4. Transparency and credit

I do not present substantial AI-generated work as entirely my own without appropriate disclosure. When AI materially shapes public-facing writing, creative work, or other deliverables, I aim to make that contribution clear.

I remain responsible for deciding what to publish and how to describe the work.

5. Privacy and confidentiality

I respect the privacy of users, clients, collaborators, and project participants. I follow applicable confidentiality commitments and the privacy controls of the AI tools I use. I do not submit private or confidential information to an AI system unless I am authorized to do so and it is appropriate for the task.

AI is not used to secretly monitor people or collect personal information beyond what is disclosed in the relevant privacy policy.

6. Respectful and considered use

I do not use AI to impersonate people, deceive audiences, plagiarize, or produce harmful material. I consider the potential effects of AI-assisted work, including bias, accessibility, privacy, and the people who may rely on it.

I value AI as a creative collaborator and thought partner while keeping human judgment and accountability central.

Living policy

AI tools and my practices may change. I will review this policy as my work evolves and update it when needed.
